Middle Tennessee State University
Middle Tennessee State University was founded on Sept. 11, 1911, as Middle Tennessee Normal School, opening its doors to 121 students. By the fall semester of 2008, more than 23,000 students were attending classes, the highest fall enrollment ever. The university includes the colleges of Liberal Arts, Mass Communication, Education and Behavioral Science, Basic and Applied Sciences, Business, Honors, and Continuing Education and Distance Learning. Among MTSU's flagship programs are Recording Industry, Aerospace, Nursing, Dyslexic Studies, Concrete Industry Management, and Business. Other disciplines are gradually moving toward "signature" status.
